Caravan Towing Training Guildford
Caravan towing sessions are aimed at all caravan users, whether you’re looking to buy a caravan and want to gain the necessary skills to tow and reverse safely, or you’re an experienced caravan owner looking to improve particular skills, such as reversing.
The training sessions include:
- How to hitch your caravan safely.
- Loading your caravan safely.
- Reversing skills and techniques.
- The importance of weight distribution.
- On-road driving techniques in a variety of situations.
The caravan towing sessions are designed to build your confidence when towing. Customers travelling from Guildford can undertake training using their own vehicle, for which a spare rear number plate will be needed if going out on the road, or they can use Matt’s SsangYong Rexton. Please discuss your requirements with Matt beforehand.
Training can also be carried out using your own caravan or one of Matt’s trailers, as the reversing principles are similar regardless of what you’re towing.
Matt uses this trailer for the majority of the training. It’s 6.2m in total length and 2.1m wide, giving it a very similar feel to a larger caravan. The weight is approximately 1200kg.
Too big or heavy? No problem! Simply let Matt know when booking and he can supply a shorter, lighter horse trailer instead. Please discuss the most suitable trailer for your training.
Where does the training take place?
Matt’s training ground is in Farnborough, Hampshire, close to the Surrey/Hampshire border and within easy reach of Guildford. The large tarmac training area is ideal for practising caravan reversing and manoeuvring in a safe, controlled environment.
Looking for trailer towing lessons near Guildford?
As well as caravan towing tuition, Matt provides dedicated trailer towing lessons at his Farnborough training ground, conveniently located for customers travelling from Guildford and the surrounding Surrey area. Training covers safe towing, reversing and manoeuvring, with one-to-one tuition tailored to your experience.
One-to-one caravan towing training
Unlike some caravan club courses where you may be training in groups of up to six people, Matt’s caravan towing training is delivered on a one-to-one basis. This means you receive individual attention throughout the session, allowing you to practise more, develop your skills and build confidence at your own pace.
Over the years, Matt has helped customers who previously attended group courses and felt they hadn’t received enough practical driving or reversing time. With Matt’s training, the focus is entirely on you. If two of you would like to train together, that can also be arranged.
Professional qualifications and experience
Matt is an experienced and qualified towing instructor, with qualifications and approvals including the Safe Towing Scheme and the DIA. He is also a DVSA Fleet Driver Trainer, qualified to provide driver development training to existing full licence holders.
His training focuses on safe towing techniques, practical experience and developing the confidence needed to tow caravans and trailers safely.
Availability and booking
Availability changes frequently and will be confirmed when booking. As a rough guide, please allow approximately two weeks, although Matt will always try to accommodate earlier dates where possible.
Matt’s towing courses were featured in Auto Express Magazine in May 2022.
