Travelling from Portsmouth for Your C1 Training
Your practical C1 training takes place in the Guildford area. Students travelling from Portsmouth and the surrounding Hampshire area will therefore need to travel to us for their practical training and tests.
All tuition is carried out 1-to-1, giving you dedicated driving time with Matt throughout your training. For students travelling from Portsmouth, training can often be arranged over consecutive days where possible, subject to DVSA test availability.
C1 Training for University of Portsmouth Student Paramedics
Matt regularly provides C1 training for University of Portsmouth student paramedics who need to obtain their Category C1 entitlement for their course, placement or future ambulance career.
Students travel from Portsmouth to the Guildford area for their practical training. As all tuition is 1-to-1, your training time is dedicated entirely to your driving, and courses can often be arranged over consecutive days where possible, subject to DVSA test availability.

C1 Practical Test Preparation
Your training prepares you for both parts of the practical C1 test:
- Module 3a – Reversing: preparation for the off-road reversing exercise.
- Module 3b – On-road driving: practical preparation covering vehicle control, observation, positioning and hazard awareness.
Training is carried out in an automatic Mercedes Sprinter. If you already hold a manual car licence, passing your C1 test in an automatic will still give you manual C1 entitlement.
